"Severe Road" Conditions in NYC- What's it Mean?

March 31st, 2016

NYC, we got them and we got them bad! Severe road conditions that is. We all know when the National Weather Service says there is a severe weather warning, we need to take precautions.

Our blog has pointed out many times during this last year the fact that in the NYC area we always drive under "severe road and traffic conditions" and we have spoken about many factors contributing to dangerous, over used, never maintained roads, traffic, stop and go driving, sudden breaking due to highways seemingly converging traffic and drivers going from doing 55 mph to 10 mph for miles and miles, etc.

Nowhere in the USA except other major metropolises like Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, etc, do we find the scope and dimension of what we all know is dangerous roads,

extensive drive time and gas consuming, etc which place tremendous burdens on our vehicles and on our nerves. Of course, weather always factors in making severe driving conditions and severe road factors nearly impossible and risky to drive in.

We are going to be pointing out over a series of posts that both factors along with super stress on the machines we drive spell possible big issues.

What can you do?

Rethink your maintenance schedule and interject that because of emissions, vision problems because of the hot weather that's coming and adding that awful foggy, cloudy

cast to the light of the day, you remember, that air pollution, pot holes, rough roads, aging cars parts that age quicker when stressed by these severe road conditions in Queens, Brooklyn and NYC means we must be more aware drivers.

It's to that end, 106 St Tire has for the last few years done a host of free inspections to make it easy for you to keep your auto, its safety and yours and other NYers safer on severe condition roads, namely all streets everywhere in NYC.

As traffic builds, you are at risk. While you may do what you need to do for the safest drive, not every driver will. So, bear with us as we continue our efforts to make your kids and ours safer on the roads, because, ultimately, we can only control our own vehicle and the way we drive. Always think precautionary maintenance.

With this in mind, here's a quick tips to help to be safer:

  • slow down
  • don't play your radio too loud, listen for sirens, news, etc.
  • check your mirrors often
  • tire pressure, tire pressure, tire pressure, that factor alone can cause a plethora of safety issues as well as abnormal wear on expensive car parts, especially, tires which eventually translates to damage to front end parts, brakes, etc.
  • use the free inspections we offer with this in mind, some days we're really busy, call ahead and ask the service desk how busy we are, use our night hours, our Northern Blvd locations are open 24/7 everyday of the year except Christmas at 106-01 Northern Blvd, 105-08 Northern Blvd. 718-446-6769

OTHER LOCATIONS ARE OPEN 7 DAYS:
118-02 Merrick Blvd, Jamaica, NY, 7920 Queens Blvd, Elmhurst, 45-13 108 St, Forest Hills

These and many other factors are matters of public safety and this blog will be pointing them out so we all can be safer in the Big Apple.
