4 Points on Why Oil Changes are Imperative

4 Points on Why Oil Changes are Imperative

Always Critical to Extending Engine Life..... 1. Engine Performance: 106 ST Tire & Wheel could never stress the importance of this aspect of vehicle maintenance. Changing oil regularly helps maintain vital engine performances and engine operations. Allowing improved functionality and smoother driving, changing oil every 3,000 nukes will keep internal engine parts clean and lubricated. 2. Remove Build-Up: Used oil eventually builds up certain amounts of dirt and debris and becomes engine gunk, without regular oil changes this can damage engine components and decrease performance a lot. 3. Fuel Economy: No matter what the price of gasoline is, MPG is always important. We want your money in your pocket! But, regular oil changes provide new oil to reduce friction and improve fuel economy for any vehicle. These improvements make engines parts glide seamlessly to lessen resources used to operate. While we are on the subject of this aspe ... read more

...alignments, a critical auto maintenance service 1) What is a wheel alignment?106 St Tire & Wheel wants its customers to know that wheel alignments are important and they are a part of standard automobile maintenance. Wheel alignment consists of adjusting the angles of the wheels so that they are set to the car maker's specification. Is Your Car Groaning, Chugging, Clunking?

Is Your Car Groaning, Chugging, Clunking?

Noises from your ride; not a good thing! If those noises are not the gentle purr of efficiency and the quiet zoom of a well performing engine they are usually warning signs. When you hear them, that's the time to drive over to 106 St Tire and Wheel (depending on the sound, see below, a tow truck may be needed) and let a pro hear what you hear. Our advice: It's too risky to wait, of course, depending on the noise and the cause which you probably won't know until someone with diagnostic skill here's the sound. While some auto repair shops might make a differentiation between sounds you could ignore and ones you need to investigate, our shops recommend that all noises and odors be checked out by our skilled technicians. First, all of our locations offer a FREE 47 point safety check. That's the place to start by looking at belts, hoses, etc. We look to remedy the simple things and we don't charge our customers for this. The above inspection also includes a fluid check. Change That Nasty Air Filter

Change That Nasty Air Filter

Come on now, you can tell us how nasty it is......sssh, we won't tell a soul! <wink> Seriously, they don't need changing all that often and they can sure make your ride a bit sluggish...air filters are important because ultimately its your car's "breathing" mechanism. Your engine runs on a combination of air and gasoline. Your gas filter makes sure particles found in gasoline are filtered out and, of course, gasoline is not exposed to the weather, road dust, etc. Since air flow depends on where you drive and on what kinds of surfaces, your gas filter can get clogged. 106 St Tire & Wheel is always advising our customers to download their owners' manuals online from a Google search. In this case, we are urging you to do that because your specific car manufacturer will guide you to how often you should change your filters. Maintenance is "make" specific in that no one knows your vehicle better than its manufacturer. Here's how to get your owner's manual if you missed it when w ... read more

Don't be Shocked by your Shock Absorbers!

Don't be Shocked by your Shock Absorbers!

The life span of shock absorbers varies. There are several variables that include how many miles you drive, what types of surfaces you drive on and whether you drive like a maniac over rough roads (like NYC last winter with all the snow and hitting pot hole after pot hole!) or use your vehicle tenderly. The above makes it very difficult if not impossible to estimate how long your shocks will last. However, if you do drive over rough roads featuring our famous NYC pot holes, we can't expect a mechanical part meant to adjust your ride to last forever. Rough roads featuring potholes, large cracks and sharp ridges that run across the pavement (you know, winter in NY) will wear out shocks faster. Also, carrying heavy loads or driving on unpaved roads with deep crater-like pot holes or embedded large rocks will do the same. If your driving style is one that takes back, bumpy roads at the same speed you'd drive on smooth roads, this neglect is bound to shorten the life or your shocks as much ... read more
